This is a personal account. I was advised for a long time to use steroid creams to manage my psoriasis. I was told, "use this and it will get rid of it." Like anyone who is suffering, I followed that advice.
I used the creams exactly as instructed, and often more, because I was desperate for relief. Day after day, several times a day, over large areas of my body. Nobody warned me about limits. Nobody explained that these creams are not a cure and that long term use can damage the skin.
Over time my skin became thin and fragile. If I bumped into anything or brushed against a surface, I would bleed. The very barrier that is meant to protect the body was weakened. Meanwhile, the psoriasis itself was not healed. It was only being pushed down for short periods, then returning again.
In my case, steroid creams did not solve the problem. They added a new problem on top of the original one. I ended up with drawers full of creams, many of them containing steroids, sold with hope but without clear warnings or boundaries.
This testimony is not an attack on medicine. It is a reminder that people in pain will often overuse anything that promises relief if they are not clearly told about risks and limits.
