Chapter 31 · Published 08 Mar 2026 00:05

This section is not written out of anger. It is written out of experience.

For many years, I was repeatedly advised to use steroid creams for my psoriasis. I was told they would reduce inflammation and help clear my skin. What I was not told were the limits, the risks, or the consequences of long-term and repeated use.

In desperation, I used steroid creams frequently, sometimes multiple times a day, over large areas of my body. I was not warned to stop. I was not warned about dependency, rebound effects, or skin damage.

Over time, my skin became thin and fragile. I bruised easily. I bled when lightly bumped or touched. The protective barrier of my skin weakened, while the psoriasis itself continued underneath.

Steroids did not resolve the condition driving my psoriasis. They suppressed surface symptoms temporarily while allowing deeper inflammation to continue. When flares returned, they often came back stronger, through skin that was now more vulnerable.

Steroids may help some people in short, carefully managed periods. But without clear guidance, they can cause harm — especially when fear and suffering drive overuse.

If steroids are prescribed, people deserve honesty, boundaries, and education. Relief without understanding comes at a cost.
